Flood Update Friday

Things are still fine in our household. Chay isn't even aware there is a major emergency outside! We've made sure that he has plenty of supplies (diapers, formula, etc) long before we took care of ourselves. And we are partially packed in case our area is evacuated. But for now, we are still at home and still high and dry.

The Red River is about 40 3/4 feet deep now. They predict a crest of 42, maybe 43 feet. We're hoping it stops at 42 feet. Not all neighborhoods are protected to 43 feet as well as they should be, so if the river crests at 43 feet, things will look pretty bleak.

At our house, we're nervous about a diversion about a mile east of us. The dike for that diversion can stand another 2 feet of water, and the National Guard is busy enhancing that dike another foot or two. So we're thinking it will be ok, but one never knows.

Our house should be dry up to 42 feet, according to the city's flood prediction tool. We are worried about sewer backup, so the drains are plugged. And yesterday, Todd & Laurie came down from Grand Forks to help us move stuff from our lower level to higher ground...just in case...

So all in all, everone is still well here. Still safe, sound, and dry {knock on wood}. We'll let you know if something changes.
