That's a pretty poor picture taken on my cell phone. I can post some better ones from my camera as soon as I get them off the memory card.
This week, Chay will play hockey four times. Its the Termite evaluation camp. There are three tiers to the Termite level and this camp is used to decide which tiers the kids will play in. First year players almost always go to Tier 1.
I remember last year thinking that Chay was in way over his head because during the evaluation camp, he was the shortest kid out there and the only kid that could not skate. All the kids in his group were wearing jerseys from a previous year. It seems they put Chay into a group of Tier 2 and 3 kids during that evaluation camp. Towards the end of the camp, I found another group that were all beginners. In the end, it worked out and Chay was put in the proper tier.
This year, Chay was still put in a group that was filled with kids with previous hockey experience. Almost every kid in his group was wearing a jersey from last year. I saw two kids that looked pretty new to hockey. Chay wasn't in the top 50% of kids in his group, but he wasn't far behind them either. This was a stark contrast from last year. On the other sheet of ice, I found a group of kids that had never played hockey before. They were all wearing jerseys from the Intro To Hockey camp that was held two weeks ago. Chay could not do that camp since he previously played a season of hockey. When I watched those kids practicing yesterday, it became very obvious how much better Chay is this year compared to last year.
After this week's evaluation camp is over, the coaches will put the kids in the appropriate tier and then divide them into teams. We'll have a parents meeting and then the regular season will begin. I hope the twins are better behaved this season. Last year they just wanted to run all over the rink.
Have a good hockey season Chay!
