It's about time that we took the training wheels off of Chay's bike. We were planning on teaching him to ride his bike without them this summer. On Sunday, we were at his cousin's house for a birthday party. It was a nice day and all of the kids wanted to go outside and play. Chay's cousin has the same exact bike as Chay but his training wheels broke. Chay wanted to ride the bike anyway. I was busy with one of the twins and told Chay I could help him in a minute. Chay's aunt took him out there. Literally one minute later, I went there and found Chay was already riding his bike.
Everyone was surprised at how quickly he picked it up. After I thought about it for a few minutes, I rationalized that all the time on the ice learning to balance on one skate probably helped his balance here. But none the less, it was pretty remarkable to see him learn to ride without training wheels so quickly. Chay did have a few difficulties learning how to start pedaling from a dead stop. But he picked that up in no time as well.
